In a notepad file on my desktop sits a list of ideas. Ideas my friends and I have come up with for things to do. Ranging from bright eyed business ventures tackling new products and markets to random topics we wish we could talk about. On that list, at the very top sat “The Round Table”. An Idea that came to me during the January 20th insurrection in Washington DC. Scrolling through social media and seeing people jumping fences, running into the capital of the most powerful nation on the planet, my home, was cathartic. “I need to talk about this” I thought to myself.
I wrote a few drafts for a potential article, a detailed look at what the situations meant for America as a whole. It was ultimately scrapped and left to rot in my hard drive for eternity. Now in the year of our lord 2025 the round table exists for a different reason. My personal goal for the round table is to share things we care about with everyone. Whether that is video games, art, music, business, society, it doesn’t matter. We as humans have never been connected more with the invention of the internet, yet ever more distant. We all have things we love and want to share with the world. That dialogue, the sharing of ideas and passions feels lost to our world.
With the help of my greatest friends we hope to create an environment capable of holding those conversations. The round table is still a very new concept to us, unclear of where or when it will end. To me, those questions don’t matter because we all have a mark to make on the world. Everything is produced to last 3 months, whether that be a physical object or piece of media consumed. I hope our creations leave you saying three years later “Oh yeah, those guys from that blog talked about this!”. If we can do that, the round table was a success.
Below you will find those friends and can discover more about them. As for me, I am not sure what sort of content I want to create. I have a laundry list of ideas but in terms of delivery and conveying, I am lost. This will come with time as I try new ideas. Expect a little bit of everything from me though, there is a lot of cool stuff in this world that deserves to be shared.
From the table as a whole, we are in the process of creating some sweet content. Expect some cool stuff soon from the Round Table and Me as time goes on.
As a note, Author 1 already has an introduction article. Under “The Human in Human Resources” so give that a read once youre done with this one.
Thanks for Reading, Author 2
If there’s one thing I’ve realized since graduating college and entering the work force, it’s that my life has entered a new chapter. In my case, my work from home job leaves me with more free time than I’ve really ever had. My job is pretty relaxed and is largely confined to my usual working hours, for which I am grateful. I also do not play any organized sports anymore. For the first time in my life, I don’t have responsibilities outside of school or work. So – what should I do now?
I believe this extra time that myself and people in a similar situation to me experience is a double-edged sword. I can imagine that one could fall victim to a vicious cycle that leads to unhappy years rapidly passing by. Living a monotonous lifestyle while toiling away daily could let someone get comfortable in an uncomfortable position that they really don’t want to be in. On the other hand, I see this newfound free time as an opportunity for growth.
Growing up, I never really knew what to say when people asked me what my hobbies were. Sure, I played sports, but I didn’t think of them as a “hobby” at the time. I now understand that this is the time in life where I actually find my hobbies and decide what I want to focus my free time on. There are plenty of opportunities for children to express their creativity, but adults typically have to go out of their way to create opportunities for themselves to do so. I think that this is the key to staying happy and healthy, and to setting oneself on the right track for personal growth.
In my short time of being in the situation I reside in, I have gone out of my way to try to keep bettering myself. I have been going to the gym to stay in shape, cooking a lot of new things, looking for recreational sports leagues to participate in, reading more than I have in over a decade, and I’ve even taken a new approach to the only hobby I would say I’ve had my entire life – video games.
Of all of these things, the video games I’ve played in the last half year or so have been most impactful. After playing many different types of games for years, I found myself in a toxic relationship with them. I didn’t enjoy the direction some of my favorite series and games were heading, but I mostly kept playing the same games over and over again. Nearing the end of my college career, playing games sounded more exhausting while refraining from playing felt more relaxing. When I graduated and had more free time, I decided to try something strikingly simple: playing different games. I realized that sometimes we can have a niche we stick to in hobbies, and we never think about stepping outside our comfort zone in those things because we view the activity as a whole as comfort.
I began playing all kinds of games I had never played before. New genres, old games that I was too young to play on release, and ones recommended by friends. This completely reignited and strengthened my love for video games, and I now can’t believe I didn’t try this sooner. I believe everyone should try things they’ve never experienced before and step outside of the comfort zone with every opportunity they get, but should also not overlook the obvious things directly in front of them. If you enjoy reading history, try a fictional horror book. If you like watching football, try watching hockey.
This brings me to why I want to participate in the Round Table. Stepping slightly outside of my comfort zone in something I already believed I was comfortable in completely reshaped my view on the activity as a whole. Many different things pique my interest – what if I dived a little deeper into those things? Maybe I could find a new hobby I enjoy or an entirely different thing that intrigues me while researching one. Maybe I can even inspire someone else to try something new or check something out by sharing my interests through the Round Table.
Sincerely, Author 3
